How to choose a Tennis Racket – Beginner’s Guide

5 considerations when picking a Tennis Racket, as a beginner

1. Your Budget

How much are you willing to spend on your purchase of a Racket? This will guide you and your vendor when you get to the store

2. The weight of the Racket

As a beginner you need a relatively light Racket.

As a guide you may go for a Racket between the 150g and less than 285g

3. Head size of the Racket

You may want to start off with an “Over sized Head” Racket to ensure constant contact with the ball, until your game improves

4. Grip Size

There are 6 grip sizes for Adults and they are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. 5 being the largest size and 0 being the smallest.

The general rule to follow would be the smaller the size of your hands, the smaller the grip to pick.

So For people who have smaller hands they will typically go for smaller grip size say a size 2 grip

5. Brand of the Racket

There are various brands that make Tennis Rackets and each brand has a unique feature, style, design etc.

Each ATP and WTA player have the brand they use. For example Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz both play Babolat, whilst Novak Djokovic plays Head. Other brands include Wilson, Yonex, etc
